Restore version 5 app set to version 7 install?

Hi, can an app set that was backed up in version 5 be restored to a version 7 installation?

If it can what are the things to watch out for are it has been restored?

Kind regard,

Rob

Yes. It is easy to migrate. The actions and changes that need to be taken are all documented in an Upgrade / Install guide for the MS version. The biggest thing is to add ISBEGINNING property to th time dimension to your version 5 appset, prior to backup. Please make sure EVERY dimension is fully procesed before the backup. You may want to MODIFY all applications once transferred, so that they add any new core DB elements from the new version. Especially, journals, SSIS packages etc.

    Hope this helps.

You will also want to look out for members in a dimension that have the same name as that dimension...

    See SAP Note 1331040:

    Symptom

Unable to log into the BPC Administration client in 7M SP3 after

restoring from a BPC 5.1 SPX backup.

Receive the following error after step 10 of the logon process:

"object reference not set to an instance of an object"

This only happens one specific appset. Apshell and others appsets are

    not affected.

    Other terms

backup, restore, migration, admin, administration, object reference not

set to an instance of an object

    Reason and Prerequisites

A dimension contains a member with the same name as the dimension.

    Solution

    1. If logged on to Admin Console for any appset, log off.

    2. Execute the following SQL query statement for the PROBLEM appset:

    INSERT INTO tblDefaults VALUES

    ('_GLOBAL','Prev_AppSet_Version','','','7.0.112')

    INSERT INTO tblDefaults VALUES

    ('_GLOBAL','Curr_AppSet_Version','','','7.0.112')

    3. Log on to Admin Console.

    4. Change problem member name to something different using NEWID

functionality. You will have to change any properties that reference

    this dimension as well.

    5. Process problem dimension.

    6. Log off Admin Console.

    7. Execute the following SQL query statement for the PROBLEM appset:

DELETE FROM tblDefaults WHERE Type IN

    Page 2

    ('Prev_AppSet_Version','Curr_AppSet_Version')

    8. Log on to Admin Console again and complete migration steps.

The above problem is fixed in 7M SP5.
