Hi experts,
Business situation:
There is a product family A where products have a short shelf live, therefore we work with strict FEFO (first Expiration first out). Warehouse task creation based with batch. Therefore we have on relevant storage types "Avail. Qty: Batches: batch specific".
There is another product family B where the shelf life is not a problem. To save storage space, we allow mixing batches of the same product on bulk bins. WTs are created without batch to allow user pick the first batch they can get from the bulk. Therefore we have on relevant storage types: "Avail. Qty: Batches: batch neutral".
Now comes the problem that always comes: space is not unlimited and the customer wants to be able to store both product families in the same storage type(s), so the same bin can be used today for family A (therefore batch neutral) and tomorrow for family B (batch specific). The problem of mixing batches being allowed only for family B is already solved - organisationally: forklift drivers will know when to mix and when not.
But what we still couldn't solve is, how to make the available quantity sometimes batch specific, sometimes batch neutral, depending on the product? I am almost sure it is not possible in EWM standard, but if you show me otherwise you will make my whole day. So I am guessing we need to manipulate the results of reading the customizing for a storage type using a BADI. Can anybody help in one direction or the other?
