Invalid Index Error when Maintaining Dimension Members

Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there something I can do on the Admin side or is this a Basis issue? I can maintain dimension members in the Sandbox but not Dev. I can not maintain dimension members for the Time Dimension, but if I make a copy of the Time Dimension as TIME2, I can maintain dimension members of TIME2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

Justin,

Are you in a mixed Excel 2003/2007 environment? We are sometimes seeing this issue on computers with Excel 2003. The fix for us is to maintain the member sheet using a computer with Excel 2007. This triggers a corruption warning and Excel 2007 repairs the corruption. After this repaired sheet is saved, the member sheet works fine.

If you can confirm or deny that you have a mixed environment, that'd be great. We're having a hard time determining that this is actually the cause of the issue.

Thanks,

Hi Ethan,

We are using a mixed Excel 2003/2007 environment. We are using 2003 while our consulting partners are using 2007. It is very possible that I didn't receive errors in the Sandbox because they were dimensions that I created, while the dimensions with errors in the Dev environment were created by consultants with 2007.

This fix is a great idea for now, although it doesn't solve the problem. We had simply been creating copies of the dimensions (which required removal from all applications) then deleting the original and renaming the copy. I like your fix a lot better!

This mixed environment may be the cause. It would be great to find a solution that doesn't require Excel 2007 so I can perform the fix myself.

Justin,

I'm glad that the fix works for you.

With regards to the cause, we have not been able to determine the exact action that causes this issue.

We know that it is not necessarily the actual creation of the dimension, as this has happened on dimension that have been around for several months and have been opened multiple times on computers with 2003 and 2007. Since it doesn't result in any major issue for us, and our production environment should be 2003-only, we have not prioritized it. If you or someone else determines the cause, it would be great to know exactly why this is happening.

Thanks,

Ethan

Quick Question to the 'fix':

What if the 'fix corrupt file' message does NOT appear when opening the dimension member sheet in Admin via excel 2007?

Is there an option within EXCEL 2007 to activate 'fixing corrrupt file' upon opening?

opening, saving, processing works fine in EXCEL 2007 , however in EXCEL 2003 error continues to pop up.

please advice...
