Remote client copy

Greetings,

We are planning for SAP remote client copy ( client 300 PROD -> client 200 DEV ) in the upcoming weekends.

How can I find out on the following :

a) How much space need to extend in DEV server for client copy? <---First did a test run ? Is the test run slow down my source system (PROD system). Will the test run generate a lot of archive log at DB level?

b) Do I have to disable archiving in DEV only, or both DEV & PROD ? <---During the actual run and also test run.

Thank you.

Choon Keet,

You can check the space requirement by running the report SE38/SA38 -> RSSPACECHECK or test run. Yes, it is ok to run first in test run. Test run will not generate any archive logs at DB level. Try to run the test run when there is less load on the system.

b) Do I have to disable archiving in DEV only, or both DEV & PROD ? <---During the actual run and also test run.

During import into DEV you may choose to disable archiving but there is no need on PROD side.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Yes you need to perform this activity for remote client copy.

Otherwise it ll stuck in that table without proceeding further.

That is simple job for ABAP er to change the structure if there is any changes.

Dont worry much on that one.

Dear Raja,

May I know is this steps necessary?

You will do this everytime you perform a remote client copy?

=========================================================================================

make sure that there is no table structure difference betwen the two systems during the remote client copy

you can check this pressing the RFC Comparison icon in the scc9 screen in the target system

After correcting the changes then go for remote client copy or else your remote client copy will fail if there is any difference

Raja

Hi,

I will suggest few ideas instead of remote client copy.

Refresh your sandbox system and then do the remote client copy or client export/import.

It wont affect the performence of you system.

I dont think you need to actually turn off the archive logs during the test Run in both the system.

Please check that what is the size of the client by running reports and then deside thet you have enougf space in you dev table space.

Yes when you run remote client copy there will be load on the system .Please try to do the actual activity when you have no user on both the client (DEV and production)

Hi Choon Keet,

The test run may slow down your system but it will not create any archive log.

b) Do I have to disable archiving in DEV only, or both DEV & PROD ? <---During the actual run and also test run.

DEV only.
