    Hi.

Product Cost Collector is used as cost object in Product Cost by period, which generally used in repetitive manufacturing industries and for make to stock scenarios.

Production order can also be used as cost object. U can think of general usage in make to order scenarios.

WIP calculation settings as explained in other posting u can configure. Only thing u have to consider is the status.

    Regards

    Hi janardhan,

    1. Please find below the chief differences between the Product Cost collector and Production Order

    a. Both can act as cost objects

    b. In Product cost Collector case (henceforth will be referred as PCC), the cost is analysed by material, but in case of Production Orders, the costs are analysed by Order.

    d. The variances can be calculated and settled by period in case of PCC. but in case of Production Order, variances can only be calculated once hte order has the status DLV or TECO.

    e. There is a timing difference in recognising the variances in case of Production Orders due the the reason given in Point 3.

    f. Product Cost collector can be used in repetitive scenario or in Descre Scenario where the production/process orders are attached to Product Cost Collector. But Production Orders will only used in Descrete scenario.

    2. The WIP can be calculated/attached to the production order indirectly throgh setting in Order dependant parametner in the Production Order types in OPL8 t code.

    Hope this clarifies your questions.

Please let me know if you need further details in this regard
