Upgrading from SP1 to SP2 not possible?

Former Member

Hi,

when installing CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.exe (Crystal Reports 2008) and after that CRRuntime_12_2_mlb.exe, there is an error message like "A different version of this product is already installed...cannot continue...." (translated from German). Why is that? Isn't it possible to upgrade?

Regards,

Florian

It should be possible. Unfortunately, my testing indicates the following:

If you try to install CRRuntime_12_2_mlb.exe over CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.exe, you get the error.

Trying to update the runtime using the CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.msi results in the same error.

Same error is produced trying to update runtime installed by CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.msi and trying to update that with CRRuntime_12_2_mlb.msi.

Possible workarounds:

1) Preliminary test indicates that if you create your own setup project (setup.exe) or msi, the issue goes away.

2) Uninstall the runtime from the CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.* and do a new install using CRRuntime_12_2_mlb.*

This issue will be tracked with R&D for a resolution. I will update this thread once I have the tracking number.

Having same problem, see my other post -- sorta baffled why a problem this obvious was not caugh by SAP in testing?

Anyway, does anyone know where I can get the CRRuntime_12_2_mlb.msi?

Thanks, Rob.

You should be able to find all downloads at this link:

https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm

Also, see my [Topic of the week|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/14789] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken]; for more details on this issue.

Ludek,

I've read your topics of the week, but it's seems there is no solution for us Click Once deployment folks?

Wouldn't putting the file CRRuntime_12_2_mlb.msi in the correct location on your server be the simplest solution? i.e. "http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/downloads/redistributables/cr_120/redist/x86/"

As you know, with ClickOnce deployments, there are no Setup Projects included in the Solution.

Well, the blog and track were not meant to address click once deployment at all. It is simply describing an issue where you can not run updates of SP 2 runtime where SP 1 runtime was installed previously. Nothing to do with click once as such - thought there does appear to be an issue with click once. I will see what I can find out re. click once and reply on your other thread:

Hi all,

This is by design which means it is quite typical for software updates to to un-install the previous version before applying a new setup package.

This also resolves any issues where some application or process has a CR dependency locked which does not allow the update to be applied completely. Detecting a re-boot required doesn't always work properly.

You could create your own installer that un-installs CR runtime first and then installs SP2.

This will not be "fixed", not that it is an issue, Just a requirement.

Thank you

Don
