Exchange rate type M

Hi

We configured the exchange rate type M with reference currency SGD. There is a new currency (eg: AED) need to be added for exchange rate. We did maintain the translation ratio for AED to SGD and SGD to AED. There was an error message prompt that 'Maintain conversion factors for AED /MYR ' when we would like to do the posting for company A that local currency is MYR.

Our understand is that system will always calculate the exchange rate from AED to SGD and MYR to SGD since exchange rate type with reference currency SGD was maintainted. Can expert share with us why do we still need to maintain the conversion factor for AED to MYR? Please advice.

Regards

Kang Ring

    HI,

guess whats missing is the translation ratio (T-code OBSS) from MYR -> SGD and SGD -> MYR.

If you are using reference currency for Ex. rate maintenance the conversion from AED -> MYR happens in 2 steps:

AED -> SGD, SGD -> MYR.

For both steps, translation ratio needs to be entered as well as the ex. rates (T-code OB08 or TCURMNT) AED -> SGD and MYR -> SGD.

Each entry must be valid for the particular date the currency translation takes place.

    Best regards, Chrisztian

      HI,

neither translation ratio nor ex.rate maintenance of AED -> MYR is required, if you use the base (reference) currency concept.

This is the advantage of this concept.

Whenever you have entered the translation ratios and the ex. rate for a "new currency" (one that was not used so far) in relation to your base currency, this new currency can be converted into all the other currencies where you did this already.

No need to maintain anything directly from source to target currency, everything belongs to the base (reference) currency.

      Best regards, Christian
