Missing REST Adapter in 7.31

Hi Experts,

I have an SAP PI 7.31 SP 17 Patch 7. I understand that the REST adapter is supported as of SAP 7.31 SP 14 but it's not available when we create a new channel.

The note says 'Open the ESR, and upload the latest software component version SAP BASIS 7.31/7.4' to fix it. Does that mean I can download the one with the most recent release date and import into ESR even if they have different SP level?

Also, can we do this with zero downtime? Just want to make sure it won't cause any issues.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Mark,

General recommendation (e.g. mentioned in SAP Notes 1536986 and 2333578) is to download and import XI Content of the same SP level, as the PI/PO system - even though you may see a different statement in another SAP Note (2276231), which mentions that adapter metadata is SP independent.

Personally, I prefer to keep SP level of imported adapter metadata and PI/PO SP level in sync. Thinking behind this is as following: if adapter metadata corresponding to the newer SP level, is imported, but corresponding system components are not on the same SP level, and if there were new features including new adapter configuration elements / options, introduced in between SP levels of system components and adapter metadata, you will see new configuration options when maintaining corresponding communication channels, but they will not take effect (will be ignored) at runtime, since respective features are not yet implemented in adapter application that is deployed to the system in bounds of the used software components SP level. This may become confusing during configuration time - even though does not disturb runtime.

Import of adapter metadata does not require system restart / downtime, it is an on-line operation.

Regards,

Vadim
