Project coding mask

When we began using SAP, we had coding mask as CP-00000000-000-000 and EX-00000000-000-000 for Capital and Expensed projects. We are trying to change the masks to CP-00000000-XXX-000 so that we can mark lower level wbs as EXP. Now when we attempt to create a new Project, we cannot get a Proposed Open Number. Is there a way to have XXX and get the next number?

    Hello Kevin,

Please do not change the existing coding masks, instead you block them and create a new coding mask and use the same for the projects. This is the best practice followed across.

Even if you change the old coding masks, only the new projects created after change will reflect the new coding projects , but some time it gives problems.

    Thanks,

Thank you for your response. We have already changed the mask in development. We were hoping to keep the mask ID's of CP and EX. I've tried to change them back but get a message that you can only go from numeric to alpha, not back to numeric. I also cannot delete the existing masks. It appears that our only problem is that we are not getting the next available number when creating a new project. Any thoughts on that?

After deleting all of the projects in development, we were able to delete the mask that had been changed. We recreated the mask as it was and locked it. Then we created the new mask of CP-00000000-XXX-000. This new mask still will not give us the correct next available number. We are going to go back to using the all numeric mask. Thanks for your help.
