Hi Guys,
I am installing PI 7.1 EHP1 in distributed environment. Central services instance and primary appli are on one host and db on a diff host. I have installed successfully the central serices instance.
The next step is to install the db instance and for this do i need to run the sap inst on the db host or can i install the db by running the sap inst from the app server?
any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Srini
started the sapinst from the db server and the problem has solved.
For distributed installation you need to follow the above order.
Thanks,
Srini

Hi Srinivas,
You can i install the db by running the sap inst from the app server. But usually before installing teh application server we first install the database. You said you already installed the app. server, so where are the files and tables created. Please check that
Usually the steps we do are mentioned in this thread:

Hi Satish,
In the stanard type installation, you need to install DB first but in the case of distributed environment you need to install the central services instance first.
Please see the steps below from the installation document for distributed type installation.
1. Central Services Instance (SCS): Installs a central services instance (SCS) and prepares the SAP global host
Mandatory step in installing a distributed SAP system with usage types or software units based on AS ABAP and AS Java
2. Database Instance:Installs a database instance. Mandatory step in installing a distributed SAP system
You must have finished the Central Services Instance (SCS) installation before you can choose this installation option.
3. Primary Application Server Instance:Installs a primary application server instance and enables additional software units
Mandatory step in installing a distributed SAP system on several hosts. You must have finished the database instance installation.
I tried running the sapinst from the app server to install the db instance and at the moment i enter the master password it is giving me the errors and thats the reson i am planning to run the sapinst on the db server.
Thanks,
Srini
