Material Group

Definition

The material group (base material group) is the level in the material group hierarchy which must be assigned directly to a material when it is created. It is defined across the corporate group and sub-divides the complete material assortment from a business management viewpoint.

Those material groups which themselves comprise material groups are called material group hierarchy levels. A hierarchy level can have one or more other hierarchy levels (material groups) assigned to it.

By structuring/linking material groups and material group hierarchy levels in a meaningful way you create the material group hierarchy

you define material groups to group together materials with the same attributes or purpose.

You can use material groups to:

Limit the scope of analyses

Systematically search for material master records via matchcodes

Hi Ravi

Based on various parameters you can group materials under a single attribute and then create a MGC for all such materials/Services. For example Office supplies can be one of the material group which will cover all the items like stationary, pen, papers etc.

MGC normally are created by functional consultant (as mentioned above by using Tcode OMSF) but this will require a CTS if you are working on a produciton system.

HI,

Material grp is generaly used for report purpose in MM Ucan create new matl grp in OMSF.

In sales they use product hierrachy for reports & in PP thet MRP controller to get report.

A grouping of materials and services according to their characteristics.

material group is important in master data.

when you create a new material in the basic data you can see material group .

for eg. if you are not sure about the data you can mention in material group and create a text Purchase order for limit POs

all material groups are stored in t023 and t023t tables

HI,

You can create new material group in OMSF t.code, Material group is nothing but grouping together of materials with the same attributes. This material group is assigned to material master.

For account assigned PO's, accout determiantion can be doen through material group by assigning valuation class to material group.

For procurement of materials without material master, then material group is mandatory. You can also create an inforecord without material but with material group and vendor combiantion.

1.Classify the purchase of goods or services into logical groups - this information is then used to set strategic initiatives to better utilise the university's overall purchasing power.

2.Provide a means of compiling information on expenditure patters on various classes of products.

3.Identify special goods and services that require release by appropriate officers .

U can define the material group in OMSF t.code and also link it with valuation class follow the path

IMG>MM>Purchasing>Material master>Entry Aids for Items without a Material Master

This is being used for account determination without material master and here G/Lu2019s are assigned with material group basis.

Material group is the grouping of simliar types of materials.it helps in material valuation.

if you want to create new material group, the tcode for this is WG21
