SMD Installation and wily Introscope

Hello All,

My current solution manager environment is in support pack level : SOLMAN7.0 and Support pack 15 - 32 bit windows 2003 server.

We have already configured EWA for abap system, CTS+ for java and its running fine. Now we have a plan to do performance monitoring and EWA reports for java system.

I explored in SDN and understood that we need SMD for both(EWA and Performance monitoring - wily Introscope) since SMD will acts as a SDCCN for Java.

Now my questions are.

1. The above understanding of SMD is right? If not please correct me

2. I don't have SMD agent currently in the solution manager system, So I need to download and have to install using SAPInst?

3. DO i need to install SMD agent in satellite system as well? Because I need to monitor the Netweaver 2004 instances - portal.

4. I have Netweaver 2004s system as well - with default SMD agent , Is there any configuration needs to be done in satellite system SMD agent.

Atlast I have downloaded the ZIP file from sapnote for configuring EWA for non abap system and Looking for the links or sapnotes for Wily Introscope and SMD configuration.

Suggestions and comments are highly appreciable

The EWA data for non ABAP system is collected by SMD Agent not SDCCN.

Yes, you need to install SMD agent.

Obviously yes, you need to install SMD Agents on your NW intances. Once you install SMD agent in your satellite system. You need to run Managed system wizard and Managing system wizard from SOLMAN http://<solmanhost>:<port>/smd

The note 976054, you would have downloaded the guide from this. That should suffice.

Its very clear for me from your answers, could you also please explain your suggestions for the below one

In my scenario Soution manger system is in the patch level of SP15 and I need to nearly configure 40 managed system in this solution manager.

SOlman is configured as local SLD and all the managed systems are in SMSY and I believe fetching of components from SMSY to SLD is also happening as of now.

From your answer I understand that I need to install SMD agents in solution manager and also in Managed system and also I need to install Wily agent only in Solution manager and not in managed system. Just for the confirmation Am i right on my above sentence?

Then my big question now is all the portal system(managed systems) running in the patch level of Netweaver 2004 SP 15. But from the note i understood that as a prerequisite the patch level should be 19 in the managed system then only its possible to generate EWA report.

And also do i need to Install SMD agents individually in all managed systems or do we have any option for maintaining SMD agent as centrally for all the 40 systems. This may reduce the work and also it may be convenient for us to maintain. Suggestion please

Yes,Also In Willy installation guide, you should get everything whether you need to install Willy enterprise manager or the agent

Need to be installed individually in each of the managed systems, No option of simultaneous installation of multiple SMD agents !

Yes, Your understanding is correct.

No, I am not able to locate that in the note 976054. Please check this note 1274287, for Diagnostics Pre-requisites.

No centralised method for collecting your Managed system specific data. Need to install SMD on each instance as well. Say, you have clustered installations with 1 CI and 2 Dialog hosts. This requires 3 SMD Agents to be installed on each host separately. This being the case, we cannot expect a central SMD Agent for all your 40 Managed systems

1. Yes, your understanding is absolutely correct !

2. SMD agents are made for both, the satellite and the solman system. And, the Willy Introscope agent is made for Solman system.

You need to install SMD agent and Willy agent in Solman. you will get files and download locations and installation method with the help of notes and the guides, yes by SAPinst !

3. Yes, SMD agents are need to installed in Satellite systems, if your case, then yes, in Portal system you have to install SMD agent and register it with Solman system. It will send the analysis data into Solman.

4. With the new installations, SMD agent instance comes automatically with the installation, so is with yours.

You need to register it with the Central 'Managing system' i.e. with the Solution Manager.

You need to download the required guides from service.sap.com/diagnostics , for both, the 'Managed system' i.e. the Satellite system and for the 'Managing system' i.e. the Solman.

Iam not sure about the configuration setup but i can help you out with some useful documents.
