Solution Manager 7.2 on SAP NW 7.31

Hello,

Our current system is ECC6 - EHP 6 on Oracle with SAP NW 7.31. We intent to upgrade and migrate to EHP7, NW 7.4 on HANA in a few years.

We only used Solution Manager 7.1 to send our system environment to SAP through Landscape Management Database (LMDB). So, we don't really use Solution Manager.

We would like to start using Solution Manager, but the version 7.2, on our current system to prepare the future migration to HANA.

I read in many places that Solution Manager 7.2 runs on NW 7.4, but I also read in other places that Solution Manager 7.2 is compatible from NW 7.3 SPS12.

Question 1: Can we implement SolMan 7.2 on our current NW 7.31 SPS16 without upgrading to NW7.4?

Question 2: If we implement a unique SolMan7.2 system (a unique for DEV, Quality and Production) on our current system, will it be possible to have two SolMan 7.2 systems (one for DEV and QA and one for Prod) when we will be on HANA?

Question 3: Maintenance Planner is a web-based tool outside Solution Manager. We only need Solution Manager LMDB to give our environment information to SAP OSS, which is going to be used by Maintenance Planner. Maintenance Planner is mandatory for Solution Manager 7.2 as well as for planning SAP NW 7.5 based systems. But is Solution Manager really mandatory to upgrade to S/4 HANA? or is it "only" a facilitator?

Many Thanks

Hello Prakhar,

Thank you for your reply. I read the master guide for Solution Manager 7.2 and it clarified some points.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Elodie Leroux

I recommend you to please check the below link which has the master guide for Solution Manager 7.2

https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/012002523100009367952015E/SM_MASTER_GUIDE_72.PDF

This will help you to understand all the basic concepts about solution manager including various capabilities landscape for solution manager....how you can connect what systems with solman etc.

Basically you have solman as a separate server like your ERP etc running on a database which can be Oracle or HANA as per case.

All the system have their own landscape including solman like DEV QA and PROD or more etc.

In the guide it mentions in details the best practice from SAP where you can see which systems should be connected to solman dev or prod etc. Best Practices is that Solman Production is connected to all your managed system and some of your managed system are also connected to solman dev etc...but check the guide with details.

hope this helps

Thanks

Hello Tutku,

Thank you for your response. Correct me if I am wrong:

- We have ECC6 EHP6 on NW7.31 running on Oracle. We can upgrade our Solman 7.1 to Solman 7.2 and still use Oracle as DB. NW will be automatically upgraded to NW7.4.

Our plan is to start really using Solution Manager 7.2 and implement the modules Solution Document and Test Management (not only LMDB use). If we have a unique SolMan 7.2 system (one for Dev, QA and Prod), is it possible to change the settings to 2 systems (one for DEV and QA and one for Prod) when we will be upgrading to HANA in a few years?

thanks

Hello Elodie,

As I understood from your post, now you have ECC system (NW 7.31) and Solman 7.1 and asking if you can use Solman 7.2 on ECC system.

The answer is NO. ECC and Solman is totally different systems and there is no technical way to do it.

You can upgrade your Solman 7.1 to Solman 7.2 and NW level will be NW 7.4. You'll use Solman for only LMDB, so you dont need to use HANA as a DB for SOLMAN.

For NW 7.5 systems, SOLMAN just push your system data to SAP side for MP. You have to use SAP MP for S/4 HANA. And after SPAM patch level 60, you can export current patch level as XML form and If you send that XML to SAP via OSS message they can update your system and you can use MP as well.
