SAP Transaction Iview over internet

Former Member

Hi,

My client currently uses VPM to logon from remote locations to their servers(legacy application)

.

AFter SAP implementation they want to access SAP Transactions over the internet(discarding VPN).

Is this possible..... Do Standard SAP transaction iviews work over the internet..?

Does the ECC also have to be maintained on a Public IP for this to work..?

Please advise..

Thanks

Rocky

Hi Rocky,

SAP Standard iViews will of course work over the Internet but I do not think that it a good idea to open your backend to the internet. That is exactly what you have to do because a TA iView is nothing more than a direct link to your backend. People often think of the portal acting as a proxy but that is not what it is designed for.

In my mind the only acceptable solution (especially when TA iviews are a must) is to place a Reverse Proxy and a Web Application Firewall in front of your portal server. This of course is a very cost intensive solution but to ensure log-term company security it is the only way to go.

Best regards

Axel
