Upgrade Web dispatcher from 7.42 to 7.53

I understand that there is no direct upgrade option available to upgrade the non-Unicode system from 7.42 to 7.53 as per sap note 908097. 2nd option is to copy 7.53 unicode binaries into /nuc a directory of old installation. Has anyone used 2nd option and is it working good ?
