Hi All,

I am new to SAP. I have a small query. sorry for such a question.

is SAP R/3 and SAP ECC is database like oracle or DB2 ?

or its just a top up to be installed on on the database like Oracle or DB-2 .

Means Case 1 - can i have R/3 as my database and top of it i have SAP HR , SAP MM.

or CASE - 2 i must need to have Oracle / DB2 at the backend and top of it i need SAP R/3 and then SAP HR , SAP MM

nope, R/3 and ECC are ERP software, not database

or its just a top up to be installed on on the database like Oracle or DB-2 .

SAP R/3 and ECC needs an underlying database to work

Means Case 1 - can i have R/3 as my database and top of it i have SAP HR , SAP MM.

nope, read answers above

or CASE - 2 i must need to have Oracle / DB2 at the backend and top of it i need SAP R/3 and then SAP HR , SAP MM

This is more like it, you install databse, you install SAP r/3 or ECC.. SAP R/3 and ECC already has SAP HR and MM pre-installed

Thanks Eric.

Just a small question -

then we someone say that see ECC Table , like MARA table , then where this table exists ?

and where it saves data ?

According to your answer what i understand -

Then all the ECC tables like - MARA table will actually exist in Oracle Database .

yes, ECC table MARA exist in the database.

but SAP controls what tables are created, what is updated/inserted/deleted in these tables.

SAP has its own data dictionary, and it convert this info in order to store it in database level.

so, tables are defined in ECC but created in Oracle.
