Copy of Production and HCM

Hi,

I am a bit of a newcomer to TDMS but have got it working and able to do copies in DEV/QA environments. I am now looking to do a copy from PRD to QA however our external consultants have advised that copies from PRD are not recommended by SAP. They say that SAP advise to make a non TDMS system copy of PRD and then do TDMS copies from there. Does anyone have any comments on this ? Is this really a SAP recommendation ? Itmakes me wonder why we should bother with TDMS if this is the case.

Also does anyone have any documentation on TDMS HCM Data Scrambling ?

All help much appreciated and points awarded.

Cheers

Craig

Hi Craig

Great to know that you were able to get started with the TDMS without much issues.

Regarding your query of using TDMS to transfer data from PRD to QA. It is certainly possible to directly execute TDMS process to transfer data from PRD to QA without any concern to your PRD system, the only concern is that during the data transfer phase the performance of you PRD system may go down for your users as TDMS process will be using some system resources. That is the main reason why consultants recommend to create a snapshot of PRD and then execute TDMS from the image system, so as to avoid and performance degradation to the PRD system.

Regarding your other query - also does anyone have any documentation on TDMS HCM Data Scrambling ?

The information about the same is available in TDMS solution operation guide. You may find that in the SAP service market place.

Pankaj.

Hi Craig,

this is a SAP recommendation but I did it several times from PRD to QA and DEV and without any problems. It is mainly based on inconsistency of data but after now more than 100 packages I don't know anyone complaining about this.

If you go for it, pay attention to perform the heavy stuff (data selection and data transfer) outside business hours as this can influence the performance.
