Fiscal year period customer exit variable

Hi Team,
We are developing a fiscal year period customer exit variable to use in planning function.
we are returning value from the customer exit in the format of YYYYMMM , but when i execute planning function its giving format errors.
Do any one know what should be the return format of Fiscal year period customer exit variable to use in Planning filter or planning function?
