Hi,
Could you experts please throw light on pros and cons of carrying dual stack system refresh in oracle environment considering online vs offline oracle backup.
System copy guide does not have detailed explaination. Infact it mostly mentions to take offline backup (database dependent method). This might be difficult for if source is production environment and has large database.
I can understand downtime for exporting java part which will not be very long.
Suggestion/feedback welcomed
Thanks
Offline backups will be consistent and in online you will need to make recovery. I would go for offline backups wherever possible.

I think is pretty clear by now.

Hi Imtiaz,
1> Offline backup : You will have a consistent copy . You just need to restore datafiles and log files which are consistent state.
2> Online backup : Alongwith datafiles log files also need to be applied to bring it to consistent state.
Offline backup is preferable.

Hi Imtiaz,
If you have offline backup then it will be much more eaiser and conveinent. But you can also do it via online backup and then do recovery.
I will prefer offline backup approach.
Thanks
