Problem with GUI with root login

Hi,

I have installed Suse Linux 11.1 version. I have also installed j2sdk-1.4.2_19-linux-i586-rpm and have set the JAVA_HOME and PATH environment variables under ~/.bash_profile with root login. I also tried giving the envt. variables under /etc/profile.local but to no effect...

The problem is that i am NOT able to login to GUI with root user but i can use the GUI with the normal user. Also, i can login with root in terminal mode... The problem seems to be only with GUI for root user.

I need to know basically two things:

1. Am I using the right version of JDK version for Suse Linux?

2. where should i set the envt. variable? Is it under /etc/profile.local or with root login in the file ~/.bash_profile or just use the command export JAVA_HOME="path to java"?

What should i do... Kindly help me out...

Regards,

Madhukar R

Hi, it looks like this is again the same problem that you face during solman install.
