Role of SNC in SCM process

I have read from the SAP PRESS "DISCOVER SAP" book that SNC is not part of the SCM process

1) what role does SNC play in the SCM process

2) Is SNC a technical component or a functional one

3) what skill set is required for learning SNC

Actually SNC has two part; one is supplier, the other one is customer part.

All the answers above are about SNC supplier side. It integrates our company's MM with supplier's SD and PP. It is mostly tecnical.

The answers for the customer side of SNC is

- It integrates our company's SD with our customer's MM (actually it is not necessary. There is no need to have a system for customers)

- It is mostly funtional; it has own forcasting, promotion, planning, loading settings.

- I think, It is better to start SNC customer side with APO DP and ECC SD bacground.

SNC basically involves collaboration process whereas SCM purely involves

planning oriented stuff. SNC is network based collaboration with

supplier, vendors, customers etc.,

2) Is SNC a technical component or a functional one

Mostly SNC is technical stuff. ie 70% technical

and 30% functional.

3) what skill set is required for learning SNC

You need to have collaborative planning knowledge

associated with internet or network based

link oriented planning knowledge.

Addition to Senthil. It will be easier if you have knowledge on MM functionalities.

SNC is heavily integrated with MM.

Supplier Network collaboration SNC is a Part of SCM Process it can be integrated with SAP ECC.

1) There are following functionality available for SNC which is normally integrated with ECC

a) Purchase Order Collaboration (POC)

b) Supplier Manage Inventory (SMI)

C) Release Process (RP)

d) Invoice Collaboration (IC)

etc.....

By using Purchase Order collaboration functionality of SNC supplier can confirm the delivery and create advanced shipping notification ASN before sending the material and supplier can get information about how many quantity has been accepted or rejected this entire thing is online.

2) You can't say it is functional or technical as in Implementation of SNC requires both functional as well as technical consultants.

3) it requires SAP MM knowledge a person who as knowledge of SAP MM and PP.
