we have developed a number of reports in webi rich client. all run fine with references to external data sources (excel spreadsheets). we we try to export the report back into the bo repository, we get the following error:
wis 30915
the document's serialization version is too recent
we cannot find any documentation on this error.
can anyone provide more information?
thanks in advance.

Hi Shawn,
could you please review the following information.
Symptom
Error occurs while exporting Web Intelligence reports to BusinessObjects XI 3.0 from Web Intelligence Rich Client (BusinessObjects XI 3.1)
Reproducing the Issue
Create Web Intelligence report in Web Intelligence Rich Client (BusinessObjects XI 3.1)
Export Web Intelligence report to BusinessObjects XI 3.0 Server
BusinessObjects XI 3.0
BusinessObjects XI 3.1
Cause
New features, properties are not compatible with older version as new features are non-recognizable and hence Business Objects server throws error message.
Resolution
Web Intelligence Report created in BusinessObjects XI 3.1 cannot be exported to any BusinessObjects Server lower than 3.1 releases.
Web Intelligence Report created in BO XI R3.0 can be exported to BO XI R3.1 Server

This is an old thread however as you can read from the post by Ian - Aug 29 - somebody experienced the same in BI4.0, so this applies to both versions.
Can be a false detection of different versions, sometimes can be caused by different patch levels between client and server, or spurious registry entries that haven't been updated during the upgrade,
If you are stuck you would better ask help from support.
THanks
Simone
We had the same issue with one of our clients...
The following error is received if I edit (in Rich Client) and then try to save a report in the pre SP04 environment.
The document's serialization version is too recent (Error: WIS 30915)
Doing 'Save As' does seem to work OK though.
