SAP "System Switch Upgrade"

Hello,

What is the difference between a SAP "System switch Upgrade" and downtime minimized/ resource minimized Upgrade?

How is the SAP System switch Upgrade done and how is it different from downtime minimized/ resource minimized procedures?

Thanks,

Haleem

    Hi Haleem,

There are two upgrade strategies 1) Downtime minimized 2) Resource minimized.

For first process downtime will be less and for second process downtime will be long means Resource minimized. For both cases SAP will be down at the step System switch upgrade. Please read upgrade documentation from http://help.sap.com/

    Thanks,

    Suman

    Hi Abdul,

In upgrade we use two different methonds:

    1) Downtime Minimized: In that usage of resources is high but donwtime of system will be very less. In this type of upgrade, most of the tables will be converted to target release when system is up and available for use. As a result downtime will be very less.

    2) Resource Minimized: In this usage of resoucres like CPU, RAM etc. will be less but downtime will be more. In this table conversion is mainly in downtime phase as a result downtime will be more.

Both strategy depends upon system switch upgrade. In which upgrade bulid a shadow system and will do the upgrade of shadow system. And in downtime phase shadow system will be converted to main system again.
