Current problem with SAP EHP Installer 7.00 for dual stack systems

Dear customers and consultants,

a serious problem has been found in the SAP Enhancement Package Installer 7.00 when running for dual stack systems running on IBM i machines. For that reason, the package SAPehpi.SAR has been removed temporarily from the download area. Following usages of the EHPI are affected:

SAPehpi 7.00 for NetWeaver 7.0 EhP1

SAPehpi 7.00 for ERP 6.0 EhP4

Single stack systems are not affected. Since there is no difference in the package for single and dual stack systems, we cannot distinguish between its effective use. If you are running a single stack ABAP or Java system, please open a customer message on component BC-INS-AS4 and and request a download of SAPehpi.SAR for IBM i. You will be able to run the EhP installation as usual.

I have updated SAP note 1165462 to describe the issue more in detail. If you are not able to shift the EhP installer for your dual stack SAP system, please open as customer ticket on component BC-INS-AS4 as well and get familiar with the workaround described right at the beginning of this SAP note (line marker is: C5018355 09/Jul/09). For dual stack systems manual invertention is definitely required, otherwise you will not be able to start the system again after the kernel switch, and therefore you cannot finish the EhP installation.

Once the issue is fixed, the installer package will be available again in the download are, SAP note 1165462 will be adopted accordingly and I will post details here in this thread as well.

I'm sorry for inconvenience.

Best regards

Today, patch 21 for SAP EhP Installer 7.00 has been released. With this patch the described problem for dual stack systems has been solved. Please not not use older versions of the installer anymore.

Since the 701 kernel will not be touched from the Java part of the EhP Installer, it is important to provide a recent 7.00 version of IGS as already described in SAP note 1165462. If you select it, you will get an appropriate version with your EhP stack. This is valid for dual stack systems only. Of course, for single stack java systems the installer takes care of the kernel and even for the IGS if you have it in the stack.

SAP note 1165462 has been adopted accordingly. It is currently in the translation process and will be released as of today.

Sorry for inconvenience.

Important

As of November 25 2009, SAP has released a new version of the Enhancement Package Installer based on software release 710/1 - compared to 710/2 for the old one. All relevant SAP notes distinguish between both software releases (e.g. they have different installation passwords). The old installer is no longer available on the download center, and therefore cannot be patched and may not be used any longer. Even the patch level number has been reset. The last patch for 710/2 had PL36 while the 710/1 version has started again with PL1.

The new installer version can be found at the same location as the old one and is able to work with previously downloaded stacks. It provides new functionality (e.g. can be used to apply large SP stacks and checks for implemented SAP notes via transaction SNOTE). If unsure which version you have, please check file VERSSTAMP in the EHPI root directory once the installer package has been extracted. The line starting with SAPehpi shows the version.

We recommend not to use any old copies of the former installer you migh thave downloaded in the past. You will benefit from new features and the most recent development results. And even our support colleagues have just limited access to the old version in case you run into problems with the old installer version.

Hi Volker,

indeed, in this case version 710/1 is the newer (or better, the more modern) software release compared to 710/2. This is also a goal in this development cycle - reducing the number of similar and parallel existing source branches.
