hi, christy,

Data archiving;

It focuses on effective data management and has two major purposes - system load reduction and legal compliance support. Both primarily use the same processes: analysis and categorization, the archiving process itself, and access to archived data. Benefits include increased system availability, better use of resources, and improved system performance.

Further information on information lifecycle management at SAP is available on Service Marketplace at

https://websmp109.sap-ag.de/ilm (SMP login required).

Note: SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management 7.01 is available with SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver. To deploy SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management you also need the SAP enhancement package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0. For more information on the ILM scope and functionality, please see SAP Note 1168187 contact us at mailto:ILM at SAP.com

Hi Christy,

To explain in short, Data archiving is a part of ILM.

ILM consists of 3 parts:

1. Data Archiving

2. Retention Management

3. Retention Warehouse

Have a look at the following link: Link:[https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/ilm]

You could also look into service.sap.com/ilm

Hope this helps,
