Enter task from task dashboard - edit responsible role, resource?

Hello,

Should users be allowed to edit responsible role, resource after entering a task from the task dashboard?

I am implementing OSS note 1346706 in my test system and I see the following message when I try to do this. Does this mean users should only change responsible role, resource for a task when they are within the project (from the project dashboard)?

I'm trying to confirm this before I recommend users are trained to do this differently.

Thank you,

Wendy

You cannot define the person responsible for Task QA review/resolution data; reason 1

Message no. DPR_PARTICIPANT006

Diagnosis

You did not open the project element Task QA review/resolution data via the initial view and cannot define the person responsible for one of the following reasons:

The actual project element cannot be changed (reason 1)

The project role cannot be switched to change mode (reason 2)

The resource was ordered externally (reason 3).

In this case, it is not possible to define the person responsible for reason 1.

System Response

The person responsible is not changed.

Procedure

Open the project in the project view in change mode or try to make the change again later on.

Hello Wendy,

yes, you are right, as soon as you implement note 1346706 it will be no longer possible to change the responsible role/resource when entering a task from the task dashboard. This will be only possible by opening the project directly (project dashboard). This represents the standard system design and is the same as in release 3.1 and 4.0.

In 4.5 this behavior was changed by note 1259526. This should be actually a modification note but was released as a standard solution by mistake. Hence note 1346706 was created to revoke the changes of note 1259526.

To conclude, it is not allowed to change the responsible role/resource using the task dashboard.

Hope this explains the system behaviour.

Best regards,

Silvia

Silvia,

I have some follow up questions, if you would be able to help again.

I'm a little confused by your description of the standard behavior in 4.0 being that one could only update the responsible role, resource by accessing a task within a project from the project dashboard. Then that it was this note that allowed it in 4.5 by mistake and now it is going away again. Our users used 4.0 for a year and would enter tasks from the task dashboard to update responsible role/resource. We have had several issues with this from time to time though so it has always been troublesome although it looked like it was something we could do and it worked a large percentage of the time.

I'm explaining this though because my users have seen this as standard functionality for over a year. Would you be able to tell me why the functionality is no longer available? This would help me to encourage them to adjust their process.

Thank you!

Wendy
