SAPINST fails with getpwent() error

When running sapinst I get the following error when I enter the profile directory and also when I select the kernel DVD to use:

INFO 2009-07-05 10:02:18

Execute step getProfileDir of component

|NW_Export|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|NW_GetSid

INFO 2009-07-05 10:02:33

Account 0 already exists.

WARNING 2009-07-05 10:02:33

System call failed. Error 3 (The process does not exist.) in execution of system

call 'getpwent' with parameter (), line (156) in file (syuxcgroup.cpp).

INFO 2009-07-05 10:02:33

Account 3000 already exists.

INFO 2009-07-05 10:02:43

Account sapsys already exists.

When I get to the point where it wants the DB2 administrator passwords it again happens but this time sapinst fails with a core dump. I'm not sure this last failure really matters as I believe the damage to the migration has already ocurred with the error above.

I am logged on as root.

Hi,

Check permission on installation directory and it should be 777.

Please check and if problem still persists, please let us know..

Thanks

Sunny,

I know about that problem. I had it on earlier migrations. This is the fourth I have done for this customer, using the same DVD's. None of the others had this problem.

The problem was solved by downloadingthe latest sapinst.

We had this issue show up recently and got around the error by manually updating the group file (added accounts <sid>adm and ora<sid> to the groups: oper, sapsys, sapinst, and dba).

Hope someone finds this helpful!
