As someone who has implemented SAP payroll at 8 large customers in the US I think that a key to success is to parallel payrolls during the testing cycle and test against the legacy system. It is the only way to know for sure that everyone matches (or has an expected difference).

An old client of mine had a great saying "The devil is in the detail" which means that even a small amount of errors on a payroll project can be the difference between a successful project and failure.

I have done it on EVERY project big or small customer and all have been successful. I hate to be blunt but if you are asking in SDN how to test payroll and very basic tax questions my hope would be that you are not the lead consultant on the project.

Thanks Jarret

It makes perfect sense - your views on testing.

Yes, I am new to HR and Payroll... trying to learn from SDN members

Thanks

Hire a test employee and populate the basic IT's like 0, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8. Also populate the tax IT's like 207, 208. 209, 210.

Then run a test run using RPCALCU0 (if US payroll) for this employee and see if it runs properly. Also make sure you select a proper payroll schema. U000 is the standard for US payroll.

Then you may like to populate other IT's like 14, 15, 267 etc and test them out as well.

You can also add Benefit IT's like 171, 167, 168, 169 etc and test them out too. But please make sure you have done the config settings for the benefit plans before adding the IT's to the employee's master data.

This doc will help you in understanding the US payroll process

Thank you all for the responses.

What if there are 3000 employees in a implementation. Do we check for few? or there is another things to look at?

Thanks

In your testing environment, you can start of with testing few. Once they all work fine, you can probably run all them through and see how long it takes to process and if they all come out successfully etc.

You can also try running some retros and see how the system reacts.

Hope this helps,
