How to deal with "aborted activity" & activity taking long time to execute

Former Member

Hi fellow SDN members,

Under "Data Transfer" phase, most of the activities have successfully executed. The issue is:

1. One of the activity"Start Data Selection for Header Tables" is taking very long to time, infact it has been more than 24 hours with same state. When I click on the Tasks icon next to the activity, I can see that out of 97 sub-activities, 95 have been completed where as it is showing 2 activities as "not yet started". this has been the state for more than 24 hours.

2. Another activity "Start Data Transfer" has been aborted. On clicking the Tasks icon ,the subactivities state is shown as

out of 21,927 sub-activities, 21,916 have completed successfully,

9 are "Completed with error"

2 are "not yet started"

I have executed this activity three times, but the sub-activities state has been the same.

Please suggest on these issues.

thanks,

Mohammed Tauseef Ahmed

Hi,

It seems 9 subactivites are completed with errors.

First you have to check what those errors are before re-try.

Select Start Data Transfer and click on Switch to Extended Process Monitor.

This will take you to the Process Monitor screen. Click on Data Transfer(package overview).

Now check the state of the sub activity which will show in red and check the log.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I checked the log. the message being shown is "Z_T7RUPFTYPEPKT_002: Run 0000000001 aborted due to DUPLICATE KEY on 20090702 at 130942"

What can I do about it?

Thanks,

Please check and apply the following note.

Note 1247802 - Duplicate key errors in TDMS or CMIS data transfer.

Using button "Troubleshooting" it should be easy to find the help for duplicate entries, and from then change the "write behaviour" for the conversion objects with errors.

Afterwards you can re-process the activity.

Hi,

Thanks sridhar & Dantas for your replies.

1.I followed the note 1247802 and changed the write behaviour from 1 (array insert) to 3(modify). Then I re-executed the activity.

Though there are no sub-activities with errors,

the activity has got aborted with 2 sub-activities being shown as " Not yet started".

2. Secondly, I had mentioned about another activity "Start Data Selection for Header Tables" showing the status as Truck(in progress) for a very long time, infact 2 days now. When I check its Tasks icon it is displaying 2 activities as "not yet started"

Suggest something on these two issues.

Thanks,

Hi,

Can you please let me know the names of these 2 objects. If they are related to fill header objects you can again use the troubleshooting provided to force the data selection of these objects.

Hi,

The sub-activities which are being shown as " not yet started" are as follows:

Under the activity "Start Data Selection for Header Tables" (this activity is being shown as in progress-truck icon)

Sub-activities: 1. X_DPAYC 2.X_DPAYG

Under the activity"Start Data Transfer" (this activity is being shown as aborted)

Sub-activities: 1. X_DPAYC 2.X_DPAYG

Thanks,

Hi,

If no DPAY objects are active in your sender system you can ignore these. You can find this by checking the fill header of payment tables. It should have ended in a warning.

We would anyway request you to raise an OSS message for this.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I checked the Extended Process Monitor for the activity "Fill header tables (Collective Exec.)"

Though this activity was executed succesfully but it was with a warning.

But the warning was not for the sub-activity "Fill Internal Header Tables for Payment Tables" ,this sub-activity was executed without any warning.

What do you suggest me to do next-should i raise the OSS message regarding the two issues I mentioned in my earlier post?

Hi,

It is worthwhile to be diligent in applying all recommended OSS Notes in advance. Execution time can be significantly reduced if all recommended OSS Notes are in place. For example, the u2018Fill Header Tablesu2019 activity can take a very long time. However there are numerous notes available which will reduce this time considerably.

Check Note 1022600 - Performance problems while running Fill Header programs

What is your patch level for TDMS?

For DMIS_CNT - SP11 is available

For DMIS_EXT - SP05 is available

For DMIS - SP11 is availalbe

Normally if you are on the latest TDMS patch level and apply recommended notes thereafter will help you to bypass most of

the issues you are currently facing.

Thanks,

Sridhar
