Holiday Dates

I have specified certain holidays on the "Holiday Dates" calendar. These dates appear greyed out when view them using the date fields of various windows like PO and Sale order. However, SAP still allows me to select these holiday dates. What is the point of specifying holidays if SAP allows users to still select these dates for various date fields like posting date, delivery date, etc...???
