Hi
How do I check if UWL is setup correctly? Is this something Basis team should perform or Portal developer?
Thanks
Praveen
Hi Praveen its quite easy to check whether your UWL is working or not by testing any of the standard ESS application.
Or it wud better if u can create a small test workflow to get a UWL in your inbox.
Can you be a bit ore precise on this what exactly the problem you are facing, so that we can help u out.

Geet

Hi Geet and Sameer,
I would appreciate if you can direct me or explain in brief how to create a simple workflow in the backend and test it in UWL by configuring it. If I create a simple task and test it in UWL it would help me understand very well.
Appreciate your help and time.
The UWL configuration I'm actually after is for ESS/MSS leave request, when employee submits a leave MSS UWL should be able to see the task. Also any SAP inbox message should come into UWL task list.
Thanks
Siva
Hi Geet,
Can you please let me know if I got the right place that you are referring me otherwise please let me know where SAPtechnical -> Tutorials -> Business Workflows - Tutorial 1 is referring to?
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/EN/fb/135962457311d189440000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
Thanks

Hi sorry to reopen this thread, I didn't want to post another one just to clarify something related to this thread. Also it would be nice to keep all the information in one single thread which could be useful for others when required.
I almost got 90% of the information from your answers just trying to link up the information to my current task.
As Geet said I created a simple workflow going through sap technical .com website but ended up in error when executing it. However I understood the concept, basically the tutorial workflow sends a email to my SAP inbox as a task and when I open the task I have option for Accept or Reject which in turn will send email to user that task is accepted or rejected. All great so far.
Please correct me if I'm wrong here, when I said UWL configuration in portal. In order to understand configuration of portal UML I (developer) or basis team need to configure UML to read these SAP inbox messages instead of looking in the backend sap inbox transaction(SBWP), am I correct?
Reading the sap.help on UML configuration, if SLD is configured for R/3 backend then we just point UML configuration to already defined R/3 backend. For example, I created sample workflow in R/3 Dev system, portal SLD is configured to connect to R/3 Dev system whcih means I just need to configure UML to point to R/3 Dev system?
Once configured, if I rerun the workflow should I see the sap inbox messages in the portal under UWL task list? If yes then my UWL is configured correctly, am I right here?
I'm really sorry to reopen this thread. Appreciate your help and time.
Thanks
Praveen
Hi Praveen,
You are right.
The tasks in UWL are nothing but Work Items in SBWP(Business Inbox).
Any new work items in R3 inbox should reflect in Portal UWL then only you say the UWL is working fine
You do need SLD configured but you should have a system object created poniting to R3 system.
Registration of the above sytem has to be done for UWL to work properly.
Hi Santhosh, just to understand the terminology correctly since I'm new. I created a new message from tcode SBWP and now I could see my test message in the inbox, is this test message called work item?
Right now this test message does not appear in UWL task list which means I need to configure UWL first to get that work item from SAP inbox?
Thanks
Praveen
Hi Praveen,
Just to give you more clarity.
Type in transaction SBWP to see Business Work place, now expand Inbox, you should see some the following headings
Unread documents, Documents,workflow etc.,.
Now UWL tasks in portal will display only the items you see under subheading Workflow(of SBWP).
If you see the same number of items under workflow in SBWP and task tab of UWL then you can say it is configured properly for taks.
To see any SAP messages of the inbox like from Documents subheading etc., I think you have to configure SONIC for that. Search in forums regarding the same you should get the details

Hi Praveen,
In SBWP whatever you have under INBOX-->workflow are your workitems which will appear under the UWL on portal and not the mails.
Can u tell what error is coming in the workflow u created.
Adding to what u were confused for is the User decision in the demo workflow will come as workitem in UWL and not the mail step.

Geet

Hi Praveen,
As I said in the previous post, its the decision step that will be visible in the UWL and not the mail .Its because it requires user interaction (dialog).
Thats why i would suggest you to please get SWU3 configured even u can do it, there is proper documentation available out there.
Any which ways you none of your workflows will work properly unless this is done.See the whatever steps that require user inputs will be available as workitem in UWL.

Geet
hi Praveen
1.create the user "WF-BATCH" user (work flow user)
2.you should do
workflow customizing via t-code SWU3.
Select "Configure RFC Destination", click on the button "Perform
automatic workflow customizing" on the tool bar.
When you see the flag in front of "Configure RFC Destination" turn to
green, that is OK.
Could you please goto SM59, check if RFC destination
WORKFLOW_LOCAL_800 exist under "Logical destinations"?
3.Now, make sure the Task/Workflow are general tasks.
This surely resolved ur issue.
Regards
Pravesh
Hi Pravin,
Create one task in UWL from 1 user and send it to other user. check if its working correctly or not.
Actually UWL configuration work has to be done by both portal administrator and Basis team.
Thanks
Sameer
