Attachments in Work Manager

Hi Mark/Bill,

I have a question on how attachments work in Work Manager. We are using work manager 6.4 and facing few issues in working with attachments through work manager.

We have configured FIleNet as archiving server to store the documents that are attached in different transactions but Work Manager couldn't read attachments or couldn't push attachments from/to FileNet.

It seems to be working fine with GOS documents though.

I have read lot of documentation on this and some of them claim that Work Manager should work with external DMS.

Please let me know if we have to maintain any Client Globals to address this or would it need custom development?

I believe this is a very common requirement for enterprises, so is there any standard document to help implement this? What would be the right approach?

This is a critical requirement and will appreciate your inputs on this.

    Hi Abhishek,

We do support DMS Documents with external content server in SAP Work Manager application, however there are some limitations on certain content servers, currently we do not support DMS documents from Archiving Server due to some API limitations. But we do support BADI options with in the document handler /SMERP/CL_CORE_KWDOCUMENT_DO to add custom logic. I am not completely sure about your system configuration, may be existing out-of-box solution may work with little tweaks.

But keep in mind, Out-of-Box not all objects support DMS by default, you need to make configuration adjustments to enable DMS for certain objects. Let me know if you need more input on this topic.

    • Hi Abhishek,

Once the external content server set-up properly with IBM FileNet with your SAP system and documents are flowing b/w SAP & IBM file net, we don't need additional SPRO set-up for Work Manager as long as the the API BAPI_DOCUMENT_GETDETAIL2 returns the content for the DMS documents. One thing you need to make sure is the proper configuration updated in Syclo ConfigPanel /SYCLO/CONFIGPANEL to map proper business object is enabled for DMS documents under Mobile Data Object Configuration SWM65_DMS_BDS_SWITCHES under Data Filter tab with filter name DMS_BDS_SWITCHES. If the above mentioned API is not returning content from FileNet then you may need to consider BAdI option to customize the class handler to use relevant API to retrieve the content from FileNet. swm-document-switch.png
