Relation between SAP BI, BPC for NW, Business Objects

Former Member

Hi,

Iam an experienced SAP BI consultant. These days I see the terms BPC and Business Objects integration with BI. I understand many clients too are interested in these new applications.

I want to understand how BPC for NW is integrated with BI? Is it an add-on or a separate installation? I saw some documentation available in help.sap and SDN but not any information related to installation. post any info related to this?

How is BPC related with Business Objects? Does a BI consultant can use BPC without knowledge of BO's? Or BO knowledge is required to work wth BPC?

Iam confused. Clarify.

regards,

S R

With regard to your first question how does BPC and BW integrate, I suggest you read several sources of information:

1) Ryan Leask's [blog|/people/ryan.leask/blog/2008/06/24/saps-definitive-strategy-for-planning-technologies-moving-forward-whats-the-word-on-bpc-bi-ip-and-src] entitled "SAP's definitive strategy for planning technologies moving forward: What's the word on BPC, BI-IP and SRC?" Don't neglect to read the Q&A section as it is full of insights.

2) Any of the BPC related Blogs written by my colleague Pravin Datar.

3) The EPM related articles [here|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/articles-epm-all] on SDN-BPX (see the Articles tab at the top).

4) The EPM Wiki pages available [here|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/CPM/EPMWikiHome].

5) There is a lot of great information on BPC for NW shared at TechEd. You can find out more [here|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/virtualteched-allsessions?refer=eventshomepage].

As for your second question, Business Objects in not required for working with BPC. However, there is a How-to-Guide on integrating BPC and Xcelsius in the Articles section of SDN-BPX mentioned previously.

Hi Jeffrey Holdeman,

thanks for youe reply,it is very helpfull.iam anBPC consultant.

1.What is the diff between BPCNW to BPCBO(Which is expecting in near term).

2.Why we should go for BPCBO rather than BPCNW or BPCMS7.0.

Hi Naresh,

BPC has been integrated with NW in 7.0 version (although many in this forum will agree that its just a partial integration). BPC will be integrated with BO frontend reporting tools in BPC 7.5 (ie., solutions like Xcelcius, Crystal, Webintelligence, voyager). So there is nothing like BPCBO. BPC customers can utilize BO reporting tools at extra licencing fee. BO reporting tools are the go forward products in SAP's roadmap. Earlier BI reporting tools like Bex Analyzer, WAD etc will be phased out.
