Our setup:
- BO XI 3.1 with Tomcat
- part of end user community is behind a firewall (other part do not need to pass firewall)
- no firewall between application and database tier
- no NAT
We're having trouble getting BO client tools to work from behind a firewall. They can work via the web (InfoView and WebI via web). But not with client tools.
Users not needing to go through firewall can work with client tools, no issue there.
What we configured? Based on "Configuring BusinessObjects Enterprise for firewalls" of the admin guide
- Fixed request ports for the relevant BO servers
Clients we have in mind: Universe Designer, WebI Rich Client, Import Wizard, Pub Wizard
- both on firewall and on the BO entreprise server these are configured
We've been testing with WebI Rich Client across the firewall. Users get the general message "There is no Central Management Server running".
This means we can't get connected to the CMS(?) The CMS name server port is reachable via Telnet. All other relevant ports are also open on firewall for WebI RC to work (CMS and IFRS request port).
Our questions:
- How does WebI rich client connect? Directly to the CMS server on it's name server port is our understanding.
- Does httpS need to be opened for the client tools to work? http is open
- Not all BO servers are configured to work with a fixed request port (only the ones needed for client tools we have in mind). Can this combination (fixed and auto assign) exist within BO entreprise?
- We're looking for other debugging ideas ...
