Radiobutton Group that has no Pre-Selections

Hi Experts,

I am updating a survey/questionnaire to include selection button group (radiobutton).

Is there a way to NOT have any default selections until a selection is made by the user?

I tried unchecking the "Selected" checkbox in the answer option for all radiobuttons, but when I save it the first answer option is defaulted. Is there a way to have no pre-selections for the radiobutton group?

Thank you,

Nanda

The only way I ever got around this was to add a field called "Choose an answer from above" and defaulted to that, so at least we'd know that they'd not bothered to click anything and just hit Save

Hi Nanda!

May be you should solve another way - use dropdown list with 'blank' value by default?

Thank you Mike and Alex. But this still does not solve my issue.

Let me re-phrase my question. I want the questionnaire to be mandatory (which it is currently). Then I want the two options to be shown without any of them being defaulted. I am using radiobuttons and hence I guess one of them is always defaulted.

I want to avoid the user from simply saving the document without actually selecting any option. In the examples you both have mentioned the user can still go ahead and save the document without actually bothering to select an option. This is something I want to avoid, I want the user to be forced to select an option (and the answer not being defaulted).

Any help/tips on this would really be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Nanda

Hi Nanda,

That's the point that I and perhaps Alex are trying to make.

The answer to your question is you currently can not do what you're asking about...unless someone that hasn't answered yet has a trick we've not figured out yet.

This is why we go with our option when using Radio Buttons as it allows us to easily identify those that did just select SAVE without actually answering the survey, so we can either exclude them from the results or trigger a followup action in the campaign that asks them to take the survey again and actually ANSWER them this time.
