Linking to SAP without using BW

Hi,

I am in the UK and our clients systems are in Germany. Im trying to setup BO reporting solutions off that system.

I have installed BO XI 3.1 and that all works great.

My next step is to access the sap system tables (they dont have any BW installation). I installed the SAP integration drivers on the client machine and can access the Tables and Function modules dircetly using crystal reports. However it keeps crashing as soon as i refresh a report. It doesnt seem to like running a function module across europe.

So what are my options??

My current plan is to install the SAP Data Integrator - i will use this to extract all the data i need from our clients system into a Datamart on our network.

Im then assuming i can use my BO XI 3.1 system to report off that datamart. Maybe run a universe off it etc.

Is this a reasonable approach, should i be looking elsewhere??
