Always neccesary to stop doc postings?

Hi Experts,

I am about move my transports from Dev to Production after adding 2 fields two extractor 2LIS_11_VAHDR..

As per my knowledge we need to lock the users from posting new documents into the extractor so that there wont be any data issue during the statistcal setup.

But my question is does there is any way do the statistical setup with out locking the users from posting the documents as this process take more than few hrs..

i read thr robert niegro blog but couldnt find the solution for my question
