When we run MRP, we notice that it recommends production of items with child items that do not have available inventory to complete the finished item. Does anyone know how to get MRP to either recommend production only on items with available components in stock or some other way of flagging which items have available components and which don't?
The problem may be the consequence of the setting of the component's planning method to None.
If you set this to MRP, then you will get an order for the component as a warning of the missing component.

it is true that the component items also show up as recommendations, however there is no indication of how many, if any, are available to fill a build on the parent item - it seems this can only be found with a manual calculation subtracting production order qty and MRP recommendation qty from initial stock qty.
once the scenario is saved there is even less visibility as to the qty that can be scheduled for production with available components.
any other ideas on how to get some indication of available components as relates to the recommended qty?
Hai!
In 3rd step of MRP, check Existing Inventory.
