Running totals not working as expected... help me please!

I'm trying to put a running total in a report group, the sum of a formula field (which is being displayed correctly within the group), evaluate for each record, reset never. It's not working. The first group shows totals of zero. In the second and following groups the totals are too small. What am I doing wrong?
