Reason Code and Long Text field

We have started to use Reason Code but have an issue with the "long text" field. Is there a way to disable the long text field or have have it copied to a field other than the Text field? Even if the long test is left blank it still deletes anything in the text field in FBL5N and replaces it with a blank.
