BW Initialization

Hi, I'm trying to document a process for initialization in our BW Environment and have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer

1. Does SM13 have to be cleared out?

Only if there are V3's? Should I just delete everythng in SM13? Do I have to?

2. I know I have to clear out the PSA's for data from source systems. Do I have to clear out the Data Mart PSAs (DSO). Or does just deleting the entire contents of DSO Cover that?

3. Delete InfoPackage Intialization Options.

4. Any other points to cover prior to initialization?

5. Any documents on best way to start collecting the transactions on the R3 Side?

1 Job or multiple jobs? I'm doing 11, 12, 13, 03

6. How should I load the initial data on the BW Side? I'm sure if I extract 10million sales records I would not want to have 1 initial infopackage for this!???

Thanks for any help.

Thanks

1. Does SM13 have to be cleared out?

For the items with V3 updates, you should stop the V3 jobs, delete the entries in RSA7 and delete the setup tables using LBWG for each application that you're using in the LO extractors. For those DataSources that don't have V3 updates, you can just delete the entries in RSA7. Be sure to delete the initializations in your BI system before deleting the RSA7 entries, otherwise you're going to still be getting deltas generated.

2. I know I have to clear out the PSA's for data from source systems. Do I have to clear out the Data Mart PSAs (DSO). Or does just deleting the entire contents of DSO Cover that?

By selecting the Deleta Data in the DSO, the system will delete all of the load requests and will delete the Change Log table for the DSO.

3. Delete InfoPackage Intialization Options.

You may want to consider this one of your first activities, so that you don't generate deltas anymore and can delete the delta tables in your source system (see answer to Q1).

4. Any other points to cover prior to initialization?

In most cases, it's a better practice to do an Init w/o Data Transfer to set the initiatlizations and then do an Full Repair extract.

5. Any documents on best way to start collecting the transactions on the R3 Side?

1 Job or multiple jobs? I'm doing 11, 12, 13, 03

LBW, OLIBW - Most things can be initiated via LBWE

6. How should I load the initial data on the BW Side? I'm sure if I extract 10million sales records I would not want to have 1 initial infopackage for this!???

If you can determine, of get from a business analyst, a list of document ranges by year or year/month, you could run mutliple concurrent setups in R3 to get the various sales documents. Then, when extracting into BI, you can do multiple InfoPackages as Full Repair with selection on the same order number ranges used in the setup.
