How To Maintain The Product Hierarchy Directly In Production

My company needs to maintain the product hierarchy directly in production. Normally if when you use transaction V/76 in prod you get the TK430 message, client xxx has status 'not modifiable'.

Perhaps I misunderstood the threads and notes I've read, but I thought that I should be able to enable V/76 product hierarchy change in production by implementing note 135028 ("Transfer IMG activity to current setting") in production.

In production I implemented the note to update the PH customizing object to make it a current setting (135028 - Transfer IMG activity to current setting), but I continue to get the client 'not modifiable' message.

I can find threads where others imply that they've enabled V/76 in prod, but none that explain how. If someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong and how they did it I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Apologies, I posted a draft of my question, instead of the final version. Here's the (hopefully) more readable version:

Perhaps I misunderstood the threads and notes I've read, but I thought that I should be able to enable V/76 in production by implementing note 135028 ("Transfer IMG activity to current setting").

However, after implemented the note directly in production, I continue to get the 'not modifiable' message.

is your system setup as production system? check in SCC4.

Yes, thanks, this is production and the client role is set to production, with no changes allowed.

I believe there is something that was not done from the given steps mentioned in the note.

I would make some sense if you could tell the things you did without looking at the note now.

Maybe then we see what could be missing.

If I understand your reply, you're asking me to cite the steps I did *without* reviewing the note? If so, here goes:

-Log onto the production client of the production system

-Open the client for changes to be able to make the change below

-Go into the IMG

-Search For "PRODUCT HIERARC"

-Choose "Define Product Hierarchies" "Material Master"

-Click "Define Product Hierarchies" then click Edit -> Display IMG Activity

-On the subsequent screen (For IMG activity SIMG_CFMENUOLSDOVSV), click the "Maint. Objects" tab

-Double click the only assigned object, OVSV

-Click "Display -> Change" on the next screen

-Click the empty "Current Settings" box to enable the setting

-Click Save

-Close the client

-Invoke V/76 (get the client is 'not modifiable' message)

Unfortunately I can't try the full steps in my environment as I do not have a sandbox system, we have some current settings for IMG activities (although I don't like them at all, and it may be turned back when S4/HANA comes to us)

I actually get a message to register the change.

Maybe OVSV is special. This transaction actually takes you to a pop-up menu and V/76 is just one entry in that pop-up.

Had you already tried if you can process it from OVSV instead with V/76?

There are also other OSS notes with fixes in special cases like this one: 822063 - OK17 cannot be defined as "Current Setting

If you can't get another answer here that helps you solve the problem I would suggest to open a call at SAP Support

Jürgen,

What did you mean when you wrote "I actually get a message to register the change"? Are you being prompted to specify a change request and, if so, after doing what?

Thanks.

System asked me for a SSCR key when I changed the settings to current.

Can't remember exactly if it was in the moment when going into change mode or when placing the X into the current field.

I had anyway not been able to save since I had no change request from the SolMan-System. We can't create transports directly in development, we have to go through the Charm process for everything.

Ah, yep, you had asked me to list from memory and I forgot that I was prompted for a key. Thanks for trying.

Hi Shivkumar,

Thanks I found that too, however with the client closed and everything set to modifiable in SE06 I continue to get the client 'not modifiable' message.
