Kris,
Recently i have resolved the similar issue.
Firstly, Upgrade the Kernel to the Latest Patch Level and
Secondly, Apply the SPs on ERP Systems.
Pls go ahead do that way, I am 100% sure that you will not have any issues.
But always ensure that you have taken the Back up of Old Kernel before Applying the Latest.
Good Luck!!
Cheers!!
Sree

Hi,
Kernel release depends on the BASIS release, so you must check out the basis release of your system and accordingly you decide on applying kernel,
However before you apply support package you must ensure that kernel release is compatible

Kris,
SAP releases Support Package Stacks, including kernel patches, on a regular basis (2-4 times a year).
Therefore, SAP suggest you create a strategy to implement these stacks periodically.
In special cases, you may need to use a more recent kernel patch than the one shipped with the latest
Support Package Stack for your product. This should be confirmed by SAP Support.
