I tried to create a new Instance Profile in the default client 001, got some warnings and errors that some entries were not recognised (including 'login/no_automatic_user_sapstar') however managed to save the changes. Now when trying to execute the transaction RZ10 again, i get the error message "Unkown error calling profile editor. Is there a way to fix this problem is so please let me know how. Please note this a personal system and i happen to be the 'basis team' so please assist.

Hi,

You already have the backup of default profile with extension .bak first rename defaut.pfl to old_default.pfl then rename the default .bak file to default.pfl then restart the systen and import the profiles with rz10 then the system will be running with old profiles now u can make changes to parameters.

Please goto oslevel and try to run the program Sap sappfpar pf=profile name .it shall show you the incorrect value in the profile remove then .

Changes should be made at os level in the profile only when the system is stoped.

Or

try to logout and then again run RZ10.Try to Import the active profile in RZ10.

Hi,

Go to your profile directory and run the below command.

sappfpar check pf=<Your profile name which you want to check>

My profile files are sitting in the location "C:\usr\sap\NSP\SYS\profile"

I launch command prompt, then cd to the location above until i have the prompt:

C:\usr\sap\NSP\SYS\profile>

I then enter sappfpar check pf=DEFAULT at the above named prompt, unfortunately i am getting the error message that "sappfpar is not a recognized as an internal or external command"

Am i not doing it right, please correct. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

sappfpar is the exe file in the kernel of your SAP system. please check that weather it is there or not.

If it is there, please run the following command from kernel directory itself.

sappfpar check pf=DEFAULT.PFL

Add the kernel directory path into the environmental variables and run the command again.

I tried to create a new Instance Profile in the default client 001

What happen to the original profile?... You should have a backup in the profile directory just rename it and restart the system...

Thanks Juan for your quick response. It seemed i did not have a a 'default profile' because when i launched transaction 'RZ10' no entry appeared in the drop down list of existing profiles. It seemed though there were default profile files on the profile directory, which is the one i tried to import and modify to come up with the instance profile. Is this normal?

when i launched transaction 'RZ10' no entry appeared in the drop down list of existing profiles

did the instance profile and the start profile showed up in the list?

Normally DEFAULT.PFL should be there if the rest are. If not importing the profiles is the way to go, if you had problems importing the profiles you might have authorization problems at OS level....

Please check at os Level that profile are present

If present then import them. After importing press F4 and check that all profile are there.

Thanks

If i can follow the logic well, it seems i need to execute transaction RZ10 then import the profiles. Now my questions are:

I have the file DEFALT.PFL in the profile directory, you talk about renaming it. What should i rename it to. When i import, do i import the renamed file or?

How do i get to execute the RZ10 transaction without getting the error...or is it like renaming the profile file will make sure that i don't get the error?. Is there something that i can do at OS Level to get rid of this.

The contents of my DEFAULT.PFL file looks as shown below. I still get the error "Unkown error calling profile editor". Is anything wrong about the entries in the file?
