manual reservation consumption

Dear all,

I have a MTS scenario and am using startegy 40. I have a scenario where i want to create a manual reservation for a customer A through MB21 and mov. type 241. I do it ahead of actual order receipt to ensure that the order is definitely served when it arrives. Also, if there is no stock then the system creates a reservation with a negative sign. Now on receipt of order i'd want this reservation to automatically get assigned to this order (negative or positive), and not create a duplicate requirement while planning through MRP, one corresponding to reservation and the other corresponding to the sales order.

In a nut shell, the manual reservation created should get consumed by the incoming sales order automatically.

Any inputs will be appreciated, and an early reply will be highly appreciated

Thanks & Regards,

So to renew this thread..here's my scenario...i create a manual reservation (mov typ. 251) while there is no stock. The reservation shows up in MD04. On receipt of stock i do a GR to the reservation and the reservation element goes off from MD04 screen as the system sees it as req. fulfilled. Now how do i release this reservation? I cannot do a GI from this reservation neither can i reverse the GR (mov typ.252 in this case) and i get a message 'reservation has no selectable items'.

Also, my ATP has reservation included in the check, but in this case the ATP is not considering reserved items and is confirming qty that is reserved, if i do not do a GR process mentioned above. Hence i need to do GR to make ATP behave the way configured.

While if i make reservation with stock in hand, ATP behaves just fine as expected, also i need not do a GR against reservation as well to make ATP function as configured.

My quest. is 1) what is the explanation for the former case mentioned above, though i can understand this behaviour some what, but need exact SAP wording for it. Also, 2) how can i make my reservation release/reduce in the case described in 1st para.?

Any inputs/vies will be appreciated.

Thanks all.

Hi,

Why are you using manual reservation? You can use PIR

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I understand the MTS and PIR dynamics and perfectly agree with what u have said. But i'd still want to make reservations for some 'sure' orders which have still not arrived, but are sure to arrive in sometime.

In that case i'd want to be in a position to serve these orders, hence make a prior reservation for these. Is there a way? i tried through some customization options in availability check group for reservation, but did not work. Let me know if u have a better idea to accomplish this.

Thanks!

Debasish,

Why not create CIR(MD81) instead of reservation? This would be similar to sales order, but without customer data.

I already have PIR, what difference would a CIR make if you can please ellaborate. Besides how would a CIR be automatically allocated to the sales order ? i believe CIR works much the same as a PIR (consumption and allocation logic of forecast). So a CIR would be allocated to any sales order that comes in, and not necessaril to a specific SO that i want to reserve stock for.

If i make CIR account assigned in that case it might work, but even in that case there could be multiple sales orders with the same account assignment.

Also, i think a dummy sales order will be a better option than a CIR, but do not want to go that way.
