Benefits of Maintaining Group Currency

Can anyone tell me the benefits of maintaining Group Currency. An organisation under which i am working has 3 foreign Susbsidiary. In that we have maintained company code currency as per the local requirement as 1st currency.

But any one can tell me the benefit of maintaining group currency.
