How to setup High Availability on SAP IQ 16.1 when used as NLS for BW/4HANA

Hi,

We're working on setting up SAP IQ 16.1 on Windows as the backend NLS for BW/4HANA. As part of this setup we're trying to determine the best method to support High Availability (both at the application layer and the data store layer). Note 2477758 seems to indicate that Multiplex is a solution for High Availability in IQ but I haven't found anything that indicates whether this is supported for NLS in BW/4HANA. I found a document for BW 7.x (https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/0002477758) that says pretty explicitly on page 5 that Multiplex is not supported for NLS. Does this also apply for BW/4HANA?

Does else have any more concrete guidance on how they've setup High Availability under Windows? All of the documentation seems to generically reference "use OS-level HA software" without any real details on how that would work.

Just to clarify above, I copied the wrong link when pointing to the documentation that stated that Multiplex was not supported for NLS. The real link is actually here:

That is correct you will need to do or setup an OS level HA option , for example if your windows machine A fails then everything connecting to it will failover to a duplicate windows box B that will be the failover server for windows machine A

Hi Harpreet,

Just to clarify here, are you confirming that Multiplex cannot be used for HA with NLS on BW/4HANA?

I understand the overall principals of what High Availability should do here but I'm looking for specific guidance on what tools have been used from the Windows perspective. Can this be setup in a standard Windows Cluster or does it have to be done via a third-party tool? If it can be setup via a Windows Cluster, is there a write-up/whitepaper on the best practices on how to do this?
