Cluster Slow Login to Business Objects

Former Member

Hi there,

Linux deployment on XI 3.1

We have created a CMS cluster for 2 servers.

Logging into Infoview (or any BO app) takes over a minute.

When we run a tcp trace and analyse using wireshark, we can see 50 seconds of traffic between the 2 Business Obects servers in the cluster

Any thoughts?

James

Hi,

are the clocks of the two linux servers synchronized?

Can you please also check what happens if you shutdown (or just stop the SIA) one of the cluster members? Does this speed up the login process?

Regards,

Stratos

Thanks for the response (especially on a Saturday)

I will be signing into the server later and I will look at both suggestions...

How would the clocks of the two linux servers not being synchronized cause a issue?

thanks & regards

James

Hi,

timestamps are used for accessing to the common repository. De-synced clocks may therefore cause additional internal communication overhead while the system is trying to syncronize its members.

We synchronized the server clocks including the database server which holds the BO repository.

We still experienced the issue after this. We captured logs against the CMS

We can see a thread that appears to be the cause of the delay - this is attached below

You can see a delay of exactly 40 seconds (??) between the submission of the request to login and the submission of the MySQL query to the BO repository

Any thoughts?

Hi James,

what happens if you stop the SIA on one of the servers? Is the login process still slow?

yes , we stopped one server and login process was still slow...

Hi James,

I would suggest to open an SAP case about this. There are some reports (also in these forums) about similar behaviour of several BO XI 3.1 installations.

We resolved it ourselves...

The DNS for the BO servers needed to have the name of the BO Cluster added to each of them and we pointed them at their own IPs..
