HI,
I have executives, directors and clerks. I want to pay on 1st of every month for executives and directors and I want to pay on 5th of every month for clerks.
I know that we need to create 2 -payroll areas one for Directors and one for Clerks. My question is can't we create only 1 payroll area and assign TWO DIFFERENT PAY DATES
Hi Akhil,
You can achieve the functionality by defining date modifiers.
IMG -> Payroll -> Payroll USA -> Basic Sttings -> Payroll Organization -> Define date modifiers
In this step, you define, if required, date modifiers for your payroll areas. You need various date modifiers if, in your enterprise, you want to define several different payment dates for various payroll areas to which you assign the same period parameters (for example, the parameter monthly).
If you use the same payment date for all your payroll areas, you do not need to make any settings in this step.
Example
In your enterprise, payroll is run monthly. You want the payment date for pensioners to be the first day of the month, for industrial workers the 15th, and for salaried employees the 25th. You specify the following date modifiers:
Date modifier Description
01 Payment date on 1st day of the month
02 Payment date on 15th day of the month
03 Payment date on 25th day of the month
Requirements
You have decided whether you want to define different payment dates for payroll areas for which you run payroll with the same periodicity.
Standard settings
The standard system contains the entry 00 (Standard modifier).
Recommendation
Define as few date modifiers as possible. Do not delete the standard modifier. You can, if necessary, change the text of the standard modifier.
But as per best practice SAP says you should always create different payroll area. Inspite of the fact they have provided the proovision for the same. After creating your date modifier you should generate the payment dates for both the modifiers along with you payrol area.
Also go through each node documentation under
IMG -> Payroll -> Payroll USA -> Basic Sttings -> Payroll Organization
which will give you more insight related to your query
Hope this will help.

thx for your answer...but when we assign the payroll are to two or more date modifies it is not accepting and
but in the step where we assign "Payroll Area to Date Modifiers and period modifiers" in this step if we.assign two or more date modifiers to a single payroll area it throws a error that it is already been assigned,
Hi Akhil,
You need to create two payrolll areas but you can use one period modifier which is the main key for many of the tables where you will find that period modifier is there but not the payroll area like T549S (Personnel Date Specifications Per Payroll Period) where you generate payment dates posting dates and few other tables.
so here you have the benefit to use date modifier and you only need to cvreate one period modifier which you can assign to two payroll areas.
hope this will clarify your doubt.

Nope you cant. If the pay dates are different , then you need different payroll areas.
