Advantages/Sense of "Pause Automatic Refresh" Feature

Hi specialists,

I read the help documents about the "pause automatic refresh" feature/switch of BEx-Analyzer 7.x

(http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/f1/0a5502e09411d2acb90000e829fbfe/content.htm)and either did not understand its function or my client behaves unexpected:

When I deactivate the automatic refresh, I expected that I could do several navigation-steps without the delay of data collection between the naviation steps.

What I experienced does not fit to this expectation:

I deactivated the automatic refresh and did some navigation steps:

Added char "sales-organisation" to the drill-down,

added char "customers" to the drill-down,

added char "materials" to the drill-down,

wanted to set some filters then,

wanted to refresh the query to get the data and see the drill-down according to the navigation-steps I did before.

I had to experience that adding the char "sales-organisation" to report is followed by short delay (5 secs),

while adding the customers is followed by a longer delay (30 seconds),

while adding the materials is followed by an extrem long delay (> 5 minutes).

So it seems as if the drill-down would be calculated according to every single navigation-step - but: directly after each step, instead after refreshing the report. The drill-down-result was not displayed while I did the navigation-steps.

So: Did I misunderstand the function of the "pause automatic refresh" feature?

Or does the feature not work as described? Should I open a support-request or is the experienced an absolutely normal behaviour?

Thanks for your comments in advance and:

Have a nice weekend!
